Converse Shoes

Converse, is one of the biggest American shoes manufacturing company which is making shoes since the early 20th century. Converse became popular for its basketball sneakers & training shoes, but Converse also produced safety shoes that are similar to their regular sport shoes. Converse is owned subsidiary of Nike now.

It all started in 1908, when Marquis M. Converse previously a manager at a shoe making firm opened a rubber shoe company with the name Converse. The company started manufacturing athletic shoes in 1915 and before that they were only making rubber soled footwear. In 1917 Converse produced the world first high performance basketball shoe by the name Converse All Star.

The All star sneakers came in only one color that was black having a thick rubber sole and canvas upper covering the ankle. This shoe took off when Charles "Chuck" H. Taylor came to know about the all star shoe potential. He was a basketball player playing for the team called Akron Firestones. He joined the converse sales force and traveled to different states in the US promoting ALL star shoes and the game of basketball. His hard work paid off in 1923 and the success he generated resulted in Chuck Taylor name went on the ankle patch of the shoes and since than it is called the "Chuck Taylors All star" basketball shoes.

Converse footwear later introduced the colored version of all star shoes. Converse Chuck Taylor all star trainers were the ultimate retro trainers of their time. They no longer completely dominate the trainers market as they use to do. View Content Resource

Converse in World War II in 1941 shifted their products to make footwear, apparel, boots, parkas, protective suits and ponchos for the army, pilots and troops. They also designed the A6 flying boot for the US army. Converse provided the all star shoes for basic training and after war for the army. For their war efforts they received many honors from the navy, army and US treasury.

Hollywood also gave Converse shoes a big boost when actors and other celebrities started wearing the converse sneakers and helped it to become the American culture icon. Especially the converse shoes became the favorite of children's and teenagers as these shoes can be easily worn with jeans, t shirts

Converse the rubber-toed shoes demand began to decline from the 70's and continued to decline through the next 20 years due to some poor business decision and lack of technology, the company was unable to compete with their competitors despite their investment in the biomechanics lab and soon converse was dropped as the official shoe of the NBA. Sales declined and the company was forced to file for bankruptcy in 2001, the company later closed its last US factory and transferred the manufacturing to Asia in 2003. In 2003 they accepted the offer of $305 million from Nike and transferred their 100% equity shares to Nike Inc.

Converse All Stars "Chuck Taylor" has been the best seller trainer of all time. These shoes were so popular that all Americans own or must have at least one pair of converse sneakers. These trainers are considered as an American legend. If you are at a coffee shop or driving by a local school you are guaranteed to spot a pair of Chucks. These legendry shoes are available in new colors, special features, and prints and also available in their original form. Converse did create some classic shoes like the Chuck Taylor trainers, All Star which came in High, Low & super high versions, Jack Purcell badminton shoes, one star and a number of authentic products.
